Interview with Miguel Rus, CEO, Rusvel Group

Interview with Miguel Rus, CEO, Rusvel Group

As a leading construction and engineering powerhouse, how has Rusvel Group expanded its operations and achieved significant milestones recently?

Rusvel, the oldest diversified family business in Andalusia, dates back to 1921. The company has grown significantly by diversifying into civil engineering, real estate, and utility infrastructure. We recently opened branches in Madrid, Extremadura, and Murcia, along with a new logistics center in the Port of Seville.

Which flagship projects have highlighted Rusvel Group’s leadership in Spain’s construction sector?

Last year, we rehabilitated the artillery complex in Seville and completed large real estate developments across Andalusia. In July, we began work on the Olympic Stadium of La Cartuja, Spain’s third-largest football stadium with a capacity of 72,000 spectators. Other key projects include major real estate developments in Puerto de Santa María and Mérida, as well as contracts for four-star hotels in Valencia and Cádiz, and several luxury residential complexes on the Costa del Sol. Going forward, we will continue focusing on the environment and water initiatives, while prioritizing further digitalization.

What factors are driving the strong growth of Andalusia’s construction sector in 2025?

The construction sector is undoubtedly growing due to significant public and private investments in real estate to alleviate the housing crisis. The construction industry in Andalusia is experiencing steady growth, with quarterly expansion rates exceeding 3%. In 2024, the sector contributed more than 6% to the region’s gross added value, with 1,405 new projects launched in the first half of the year, representing 13.6% of the national total. Currently, a key issue for Rusvel’s project execution is a general shortage of labor.

What initiatives are Rusvel Group and local training institutions undertaking to attract, develop, and retain a highly skilled workforce?

Andalusia’s construction sector is strong, but attracting sufficient new talent remains a key challenge. Rusvel employs over 500 professionals across infrastructure, construction, water, waste, and sustainability. The Rusvel Quarry Plan aims to recruit the best university graduates, therefore attracting and retaining talent. Additionally, we plan to launch more industrialized projects and incorporate qualified foreign labor in an orderly manner to help meet demand.

How is Rusvel Group integrating digitalization and innovation into its operations to prepare for the future?

Rusvel Group’s Strategic Plan for Continuous Improvement and Digitalization, initiated in 2022, is renewed annually. We invest 15% of our annual pre-tax earnings in the development of databases, technology, industrialization, prefabrication, and process control.

What steps is Rusvel Group taking to drive the green transition and transform the industry?

Rusvel is committed to sustainability, with a focus on circular economy processes. Through our MAREA brand, we are leaders in Spain’s entire water supply cycle, from waste management to environmental technology, making us a strategic player in bio-waste projects.

What are your top three priorities as CEO of Rusvel Group for 2025?

I believe Rusvel Group is set to continue the sustained growth that we’ve seen since its founding. Despite challenges, our trust in our team’s professionalism and commitment to innovation guarantees a very promising future.
